The main points were:

  • Vaccinations for 12 to 15 year old children
  • Booster (third) vaccination for over 50's or vulnerable, those in care homes, and frontline health and social care workers - starting as early as next week
  • No plan for vaccine passports

Internation travel restriction changes yet to be announced and are expect soon or by October 1st.

However there is a Plan B should there be pressure on the NHS, which could include:

  • Mandatory face masks in certain settings
  • Vaccine passports for night clubs, large capacity events
  • Advising to work from home again

Most of these measure apply to England only though Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have followed suit on the booster vaccinations already. Scotland still intend to being in vaccine passports for night clubs.

Reaction on twitter was mixed:

So in the space of a week Covid passports have gone from being the winter plan to being scrapped to being Plan B, but the government can't tell us when Plan B will kick on or how businesses will be supported to deliver vaccine passports.
Is that clear? More chaos and confusion.

Boris Johnson’s Plan B to control Covid over winter has left ministers wondering if there’s a Plan C

So it’s pretty obvious what the govt has planned for us this winter.Come Nov/Dec (if not before),they’ll say ‘with a heavy heart’ that ‘Plan B’ has to be implemented ‘to stop the NHS being overwhelmed’. Mandatory masks,Vaccine Passports, more lockdowns. This is never meant to end.
